Seismic Performance of a Y-Shaped Irregular Bridge Subjected to Strong and Multidirectional Ground Motions

A 1/20 scale model of a Y-shaped irregular bridge was designed, and shaking-table tests were performed to simulate its failure mechanism performance characteristics when subjected multidirectional strong earthquake. The results showed that the structure could accelerate in horizontal direction vertical excitation. For both unidirectional excitation, acceleration response pier top more significant transverse than longitudinal direction. variable-section branching curved beams (i.e., ramp), three-dimensional excitation equivalent direct superposition responses bidirectional single With girder ramp prone structural collision. However, likelihood collision not increased with displacement beam very large at junction main beam, so bearing falling easily occurred. Multidirectional generally two piers branch, demonstrating need consider shock absorption isolation designing these locations.
